How it works

Ava's path to mastery.

Ava is in 7th grade. She can tell she's falling behind somewhere in math, but not exactly where. One diagnostic pinpoints her weak spots, then six steps take her from there to the next level. Preparing for a test? The map follows whatever the test covers.
Ava's skill map for probability: five skills, with arrows showing which skills build on which, ending at her goal.Finding Ava's weak spots20 adaptive questions, each tied to one skill60% masteredGoalMKAMCMO✓Counting outcomes✓Multiply fractions✓Simple probability!Tree diagrams!Compound events

Found automatically: 3 skills she owns, 2 weak spots.

Behind the scenes

Weak spots, found for herEach question is tied to one specific skill and a difficulty rating. The next question adapts to her last answer.

Step 1 of 6

Find the gaps.

Ava just takes the diagnostic. It adapts to every answer and finds her weak spots for her, automatically. Every question is tied to a specific skill, so a pattern of misses points to the one topic that needs work.

You getNo more guessing where you're behind.

Parents seeA summary of skills owned and missing.

Step 2 of 6

Find the real cause.

Compound events are shaky, but the cause sits underneath: tree diagrams. Fix the root, not the symptom.

You getThe "aha" moment, not the same mistake again.

Parents seeEach gap named, with the questions that revealed it.

Step 3 of 6

Learn it. Explain it back.

A short lesson, then she teaches it to the tutor until her reasoning holds.

You getUnderstanding you can explain, not just memorize.

Parents seeEvery tutor conversation, in full.

Step 4 of 6

Prove it.

Mastery is earned, not guessed. Her meter has to clear 90%.

You getConfidence that's real, not a lucky streak.

Parents seeScores and progress over time.

Step 5 of 6

Make it last.

A surprise retest days later locks it in. Fading skills come back for a two-minute review.

You getSkills that are still there on test day.

Parents seeMission history, week by week.

Step 6 of 6

Bonus: competitions.

With the skills mastered, contests like Math Kangaroo and AMC become a badge for what she built.

Why it works

Mastery first. Achievements follow.

Most practice apps count questions answered. We count skills truly mastered, and keep them that way. Four ideas from decades of learning research run behind every step of Ava's path.

Step 1

Questions that fit

Each answer moves the next question up or down. Never bored, never lost.

The same math ranks chess players and scores standardized tests.

Step 2

Skills stack

A weak skill usually means a missing one underneath. We fix the lowest gap first.

The idea behind the adaptive placement tests schools use.

Step 4

No lucky guesses

One right answer proves nothing. Mastered means 90% sure, across several questions.

Has powered classroom math tutors since the 1990s.

Step 5

Built to last

Remembering days later is what makes it stick. A surprise retest locks it in.

Studied in memory science since 1885.

To students

Stop guessing what to study. Know exactly which skill is next, and walk into AMC 8 or your next test knowing you actually get it.

Open the parent portal

For parents

You're linked in from day one.

Teens 13 and up can take the free diagnostic on their own. For younger children, it starts once you give consent. Learning unlocks only after you link your account.
  • Parent-linked by defaultNo missions, mock tests or tutoring until a parent account is linked.
  • See every mission and conversationMission history, explanation scores over time, and the full text of every tutor conversation.
  • Steer the planSet a goal and target date, steer the curriculum, and add materials you trust.
  • You give consentFor children under 13, nothing is collected for learning until you say yes.
  • Delete any timeRemove your child's data from the parent portal whenever you choose.

Safe by design

Safe for kids. Private by default.

COPPA compliant

Built to the FTC's children's privacy rule (COPPA, as amended 2025). A parent gives verifiable consent before any child under 13 starts learning.

A tutor, not a companion
It talks about math and science. Nothing else.
Usernames, not real names
Students pick a username. Signup asks them not to use their real name or email.
No chat with other users
Students never message strangers or each other.
We never sell your child's data
Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
Never used for training
Your child's answers and conversations never train any model.
Every record has a delete date
Activity records are deleted on a schedule, within 24 months. Accounts with no activity for 24 months are deleted. See the schedule.
Safety alerts without snooping
If a message suggests a child may be struggling, we alert the parent. The message text itself is not stored.
We never store a birth date
